The following are the duties of the mayor of Taylor, as noted in the City Charter.
Enforce all laws and ordinances in the city.
Except where noted in the charter, the mayor shall have powers of appointment and removal over all directors, department heads, commissions and boards.
The mayor shall see that all terms and conditions imposed in favorite of the City or its inhabitants in any public utility franchise, or in any contract, are faithfully kept and performed.
The mayor shall authenticate by his signature such instruments as the council, charter or the laws of Michigan require.
The mayor may attend all meetings of council with right to take part in discussions, but without the right to vote.
The mayor will prepare and administer the annual budget and keep council fully advised at all times as to the financial conditions and needs of the city.
The mayor will submit to council monthly sufficient data and information apprising the council of the relationship between estimated and actual income and expenses to date.
The mayor shall, on or before April 1 of each year, prepare and submit to the council a complete itemized proposed budget for the next fiscal year in accordance with the provisions of the charter.
The mayor shall, from time to time, recommend to the council for adoption such measures as he may deem necessary or expedient for successful operation of the city.
The mayor shall be responsible for efficient administration of all departments in city government and allocate building space to various departments.
The mayor shall approve rules and regulations of the directors, department heads, commissions or boards in charge of departments the city government before such rules and regulations become effective, except as otherwise provided by the charter.
The mayor shall exercise and perform all administrative functions of the city that are imposed by law, this charter or resolution, not inconsistent with the provisions of the charter.
The mayor shall have such powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by law, this charter or may be required of him by ordinance or direction of council.
