COVID-19 UPDATE: U.S,. HHS releasing vaccine that was held in reserve


The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that they will grant Governor Gretchen Whitmer and eight other governors’ request and release the millions of doses of the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine currently being held in reserve by the outgoing Trump Administration. In other news, the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency has started issuing $300 weekly Pandemic Unemployment Compensation payments to an estimated 365,000 claimants on regular state unemployment insurance and Extended Benefit programs this weekend. 

The PUC supplement, which is payable from Dec. 27, 2020 through March 13, 2021, provides an additional $300 per week to all eligible unemployment recipients who receive at least $1 for the week.

The countywide health data released January 12 showed Taylor had 10 newly confirmed cases, upping its total to 2,915. There was one new COVID-related death, upped that total to 122 overall.  

The City strongly suggests that residents get vaccinated when they can, and always wear masks when and where they are recommended. Residents can pick up free reusable face masks at City Hall. Please social distance and sanitize your hands on a regular basis to best avoid the virus.

Also note that free COVID-19 testing is available at the Lakes of Taylor Golf Course. It is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. This is a drive-thru testing facility open to anyone in the region. The Lakes of Taylor is located on Northline Road between Telegraph and Beech Daly.
