Taylor Police Department Announces 2nd Annual Food Drive

Beginning July 1st and running through July 31, Taylor Police will host a “Taylor Police Department Food Drive” along with Walmart Taylor location and Downriver Fish and Loaves.

Chief Mary Sclabassi said the Food Drive was created last year as a way for the Police Department to repay the generosity and support of the community after the loss of Cpl. Matthew Edwards on July 23, 2010 and Auxiliary Lt. Dan Kromer on Sept. 7, 2010.

“At that time, the show of support from the residents of Taylor and beyond the loss of our officers was just so unbelievable, “ Sclabassi said. “Helping collect food for those who really need it is the least we can do to pay back the support that’s been shown to us.”

Beginning July 1, food items can be dropped off at the Taylor Police Department at 23515 Goddard Road in Taylor; or at the Walmart location at 7555 Telegraph.

Suggested items are: Peanut butter, canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned meat, fish and stews; baby food and baby formula, fruit juices, rice, pasta, chili, evaporated milk, powdered milk, breakfast foods and household paper products. All items must be unopened.

Food Drive will be an annual event.
