Field Trips

Why Choose a Farm for a Field Trip?
A Farm provides a place where you can achieve many learning outcomes. It appeals to all types of learners! The auditory learner can hear a rooster crow, or a cow moo. The sensory learner can touch the wool on a soft sheep or feel the feathers of a baby chick. The sights, sounds and smell of the barn give each student an opportunity to come in close contact with our friendly animals.

Farm field trips take place Tuesday though Friday. They are scheduled at 9:30 am, 10:45 pm, 12:30 pm and 1:45 pm. This one hour guided tour explores different livestock species and teaches interesting facts about day-to-day functions of a working farm. The barn is heated in the winter, so your field trip can take place anytime throughout the school year. Teachers may ask the education coordinator to focus on a special topic about farm life that the students may be studying. Please ask the scheduler about this when you book your trip.

The Heritage Park Petting Farm School Tour experience is correlated to the Michigan Curriculum Framework Benchmarks and Standards.

For example: SCI.III.2.E.1

Strand: Using Life Knowledge
Standard: Organization of Living Things

Benchmark:  Explain characteristics and functions of observable body parts in a variety of animals.

Key concepts: Observable characteristics- Cow/fur  Chicken/feathers  Koi/scales Sheep/wool  Functions: Cow/milk, Chicken/eggs, Sheep/clothing
There are many ways you can utilize the Farm, Heritage Park and the Taylor Community Library. Please call us for our suggestions!
