Online Traffic Mediation
Citizens that are considering coming to court to request either a reduction in charge or points on their driving record have a new, convenient option! Instead of taking time to call the court and then possibly missing work, school, or other - you can now mediate your traffic citation with the police officer and court in the convenience of your own home by using a computer or even your smartphone. Check if your citation(s) are eligible for online mediation.
Plea Options
Admit Responsibility
You may admit responsibility and pay for the ticket. You have the following options for payment:
- Please wait 3 business days for the court to enter the citation - cashiers cannot accept payment without an open case
- In-person at the Court between the hours of 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
- Mail your payment to the Court, 23rd District Court

- Pay online or by phone through Official Payments or online through CLEMIS
Admit Responsibility with Explanation
You may admit responsibility with an explanation of the circumstances of the violation, which the Court may consider in determining the number of your fines and costs. You can either submit your explanation in writing or you may request a court date with a Magistrate. You also have the option of submitting your explanation or request online, once the Court receives your request, you will be notified by mail within 14 to 21 days of either a determination by the Magistrate or with a court date. Court dates are typically held within six weeks of the request. Failure to appear for a requested hearing results in a default judgment and $25.00 default fee added. Deny Responsibility & Request an Informal Hearing
You may deny responsibility for the offense and request an informal hearing before a Magistrate. The officer and any necessary parties will be subpoenaed for the hearing. Both you and the police officer will be required to present the facts of your case to the Magistrate. The Magistrate will then make a determination as to your responsibility for the offense based on the evidence presented. Neither party may have an attorney present for an informal hearing. Please contact the Court if you would like to request an informal hearing by submitting your request online or calling the Court. Once the Court receives your request, you will be notified by mail within 14 to 21 days with your court date. Court dates are typically held within six weeks of the request. Failure to appear for a requested hearing results in a default judgment and $50 default fee added. Submit an online request for Informal Hearing
Deny Responsibility & Request a Formal Hearing
You may deny responsibility for the offense and request a Formal Hearing before a Judge. The officer and any necessary parties will be subpoenaed for the hearing and will be represented by the prosecuting attorney. You may also have an attorney present. Both parties will be required to present the facts of the case to the Judge. The Judge will then make a determination as to your responsibility for the offense based on the evidence presented. Please contact the Court if you would like to request a formal hearing by submitting your request online or calling the Court. Once the Court receives your request, you will be notified by mail within 14 to 21 days with your court date. Court dates are typically held within six weeks of the request.
