[ARCHIVED] New splash pad holds ribbon-cutting

The Jeffrey P. Lamarand Splash Pad will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 26, before opening for its official first day of operation on Saturday, May 28.

The all-new splash pad is located in Heritage Park, adjacent to the Sheridan Center Open Air Pavilion. The baseball-diamond-modeled facility is right off of the Sheridan patio area, between the center and the Activity Building. There is ample parking in the main Sheridan Center lot off Pardee Road.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26. The event is open to the public, but the splash pad will not be operational until Saturday. Do not plan on being able to use it during the ribbon-cutting event.

“We’ve been looking forward to this event for a long time,” said Mayor Rick Sollars. “The splash pad is spectacular, and fits right into the vision we have for Heritage Park. The ever-improving Sheridan Center, the inline skating rink, the splash pad … add all of them to an already outstanding park setting, and residents really have a great destination point within our great community.

“I look forward to seeing a lot of children out there on Memorial Day weekend!”

Given the way the splash pad mimics a baseball diamond, with bases, base paths, huge bats and balls and even a scoreboard, “Opening Day” seems the right theme in more ways than one for the official public opening of the splash pad at noon on Saturday, May 28. Opening Day will be sponsored by Life Bridge Church.

The first 200 children receive a free two-hour pass to the splash pad, hot dogs, chips and drinks. There will also be face painters and bounce houses on location.
The splash pad has been designed for ideal usage by children 12 and under. Any child entering the area must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

There are no changing areas, locker rooms or dressing rooms. Eventually, “cubbies” or small lockers will be available, but they will not be ready for opening weekend.
Please bring your own towels, sunscreen, clothing cover-ups, etc.

Restrooms are available.
