Tina Daniels, a lifelong resident of Taylor, has been appointed to City Council to fill the vacancy created by the death of Ira Slaven last month. Daniels finished in eighth place among council candidates during the November 2021 General Election. The top seven finishers in each general election are allotted four-year terms on the council.

She was appointed during the September 19 meeting by 5-1 vote.

By City Charter, council members fill any vacancies that occur from time to time. Daniels is the fourth person appointed to fill a council vacancy over the past decade. The other appointees were Jack Myers, Dave Gorgon and Angie Winton.

Mr. Slaven – former Taylor Fire Department inspector, Air Force veteran and grand master of the Masons – passed away on Thursday, August 17. The city councilman had been battling failing health for a lengthy period of time. He was 81.
