Supreme Court reappoints Judge Shackelford as Chief Judge of 23rd District Court

The Michigan Supreme Court has reappointed Victoria I. Shackelford as Chief Judge of the 23rd District Court for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2024.

Judge Shackelford has been serving as Chief Judge of the Court since her initial appointment to the bench in 2021. As Chief Judge, she is responsible for the overall administration of the Court, including operations, policy, case-flow and docket management, budgetary matters and seeing that the business of the Court is conducted efficiently and effectively.

Judge Shackelford also serves as the presiding judge over the 23rd District Court Regional Treatment Court Program.

“I am grateful for the Supreme Court’s confidence in me and proud to serve as Chief Judge,” said Judge Shackelford. “The Court faces many challenges; I will continue addressing the court’s critical security needs and increasing the public’s access to the judicial system.”

“The Supreme Court’s reappointment of Judge Shackelford as Chief affords the 23rd District Court the ability to maintain its longstanding history of promoting justice, fairness and professionalism in all areas,” said Court Administrator Deanna Warunek. “As Court Administrator, I am pleased the Supreme Court recognizes Judge Shackelford’s capabilities and I know that her exceptional leadership will continue to benefit the 23rd District Court.”
