Mayor welcomes BJ's Wholesale Club to Trader's Pointe

Mayor Rick Sollars of the City of Taylor is happy to announce the additional of BJ’s Wholesale Club to the new Trader’s Pointe development at Eureka Road and I-75. BJ’s Wholesale made the announcement yesterday (Tuesday, November 20).

BJ’s Wholesale Club is expanding to eastern Michigan, opening two new clubs in 2019. The new clubs and gas stations, located in Taylor and Madison Heights, will enable Metro Detroit families to save about $500 a year on groceries, the corporation said in its announcement.

"The fact that BJ's Wholesale Club is locating in Trader's Pointe is yet another 'win' for the City of Taylor and the Eureka Way! business and entertainment district,” the mayor said. “We've anticipated the eventual build-out of the 83-acre parcel ever since Menards purchased the entire location from the old Gibraltar Trade Center four years ago. Menards started the ball rolling by creating a unique footprint of its own on the southern-most portion of the property, an extremely success location that has been welcomed by residents of our City and people across Downriver and the greater metropolitan area.

"BJ's is the next step in the creation of Trader's Pointe. Shoppers will find that BJ's offers a great option on their 'to-do' list. It is a major competitor to nationwide brands like Costco and Sam's Club, and is as good or better than its competition. This is a great fit for BJ's, and a great fit for us.”

BJ’s is a leading wholesale club on the East Coast, operating 216 clubs and 136 gas stations in 16 states. The company is known for its fresh food offerings – produce, meat, bakery and deli – and for helping working families save on their grocery bills.

The new clubs will feature an extensive selection of prepared foods and a wide range of convenient services, including buy online pick up in club and digital coupons. The two clubs will bring a significant investment in the area as well as approximately 300 new jobs. The project is also expected to support up to 1,000 construction jobs. BJ’s Wholesale Club is actively searching for sites for additional clubs in the Metro Detroit region.

“We’re thrilled to enter such a dynamic market and be a part of Michigan’s future,” said Christopher J. Baldwin, chairman and chief executive officer, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “BJ’s is known for helping hard-working families save money, and Metro Detroit is a great fit for our clubs. Our expansion into this market is the result of our new, data-driven model for opening clubs, and we see significant potential in the region. We’re ready to serve eastern Michigan families and bring great career opportunities to the area.”

BJ’s two Michigan clubs are expected to open in 2019 and will save families up to 25 percent compared to grocery store prices. The club will feature a BJ's Gas station, offering members even more savings.

BJ’s Wholesale Club offers members easier ways to shop whenever and however they want with convenient shopping options including, the BJ’s app, digital coupons and Shop – Pick Up in Club.

BJ’s is committed to nourishing communities and helping families thrive. Through the BJ’s Feeding Communities program, both clubs will donate unsold produce, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and bakery products on a daily basis to reduce food waste and provide wholesome, fresh food to local Feeding America member food banks. To date, the BJ’s Feeding Communities program has donated more than 56 million meals to families in our communities.

While BJ’s Wholesale Club will bring its own unique brand of offering to Trader’s Pointe, the announcement marks just another in a long line of business additions and renovations in Taylor over the past five years.

"Eureka Way! and the rest of the City of Taylor continues to improve in leaps and bounds,” Mayor Sollars said. “Menards and BJ's at Trader's Pointe; the millions of dollars in renovations at Southland Center; additional restaurants like Wahlburgers, Primanti Bros and BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse (no relation to BJ's Wholesale Club); and Hilton Home 2 Suites are just some examples of the good things happening on Eureka Road.

“Add major new infrastructure plans in that same district -- thanks to a partnership between the City, its Tax Increment Finance Authority and Wayne County -- and we're creating the region's most attractive business district.”

Other key businesses are also expanding on Telegraph Road, with the major expansions of both Taylor Ford and Taylor Chevrolet, and the location of Moran Buick to the US 24 corridor. Even smaller sites like the original Big Boy Restaurant on Telegraph Road have undergone complete renovations. Beaumont Taylor recently held a grand opening for its new Orthopedic Center, a 10,000-square-foot addition to its existing campus. And Ford Motor Co. has moved into the old Masco headquarters on Van Born.

All of this, and much more, is making Taylor “the best to be” in the Downriver area."
