During its November 20 meeting of the City Council, the City of Taylor honored the Taylor Seahawks JV Football Team for winning the Junior Varsity title of the Downriver Youth Football League. It marked the first time a youth football team from Taylor won a championship in over four decades.

City Council Pro Tem Tim Woolley read the proclamation in front of a packed auditorium, pointing out that the youth football teams in the City had been consolidated into a single organization three years ago. Woolley pointed out that he had been a member of the Taylor Eagles as a youth, and later coached the Taylor Mustangs. The Seahawks mentioned that they had brought along the championship trophy, and Mayor Rick Sollars quipped, “That’s good, because I was a Mustang, and this will be as close as I ever came to that trophy.”

The Seahawks won the title on November 18 during a 20-6 victory over Riverview. Taylor finished the season 9-1, with its only loss coming to that same Riverview team early in the season. Junior Varsity is essentially composed of 10 and 11 year olds.

Members of the team are Alton Taylor, Griffin Miller, Jaiden Melton, Owen O’Connor, Shauntez Young, Julian Houston, Justin Taylor, Cabel Frazier, Bill Hinson, Steven Brant, Jaylon Young, Isaac Jones, Seth Sendry, D’Angelo Hudson, Jake Walker, Zachary Terlikowski, DonPaul Keith, JaPaul Keith, Christian Bannow, Aaron Stewart, Hayden Maranian, Aaron Mayfield, Garrett Lunsford, Jeremiah Wayne, Jaydon Morgan, Alan Rodgers, Christopher Wagner, Lincoln Phillips, John Cronk Jr. and Theo Hayes Jr.

The head coach was Jonothan Jefferson with assistants Rick Terlikowski, Chris Wagner, Dave Arnold, Will Beydoun and Spencer Warren.
