[ARCHIVED] Lakes of Taylor named to Detroit Free Press Top 10

LAKES AERIAL

The Lakes of Taylor has been named to the Top 10 metro Detroit public golf courses for the second straight year, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The Lakes was named the No. 6 public course, ahead of Coyote Preserve (Fenton), Pine Trace (Rochester Hills), Stonebridge (Ann Arbor) and Moose Ridge (South Lyon). The Top 5 courses were (in order) The Orchards (Washington), Shepherd’s Hollow (Clarkston), Greystone (Washington), WestWynd (Oakland) and Lyons Oaks (Wixom).

The Free Press said: “The residents of Taylor should count themselves lucky for being allowed to enjoy this magnificent municipal course for the humble peak rate of $45. The 7,028-yard layout has tons of variety, beautiful bunkering, a cool stadium hole on the first tee and a picturesque 18th hole that’s radiant at sunset.”

Taylor’s two courses – the Lakes of Taylor and Taylor Meadows – are among the most honored in the Detroit metropolitan area. Last year, Golf Advisor ranked Taylor Meadows the 13th most improved course in the United States. That honor was based on a four-star ranking and an 80.8 percent recommendation factor after the course had undergone major renovations for the first time, adding an all-new 165-year Pat 3 11th hole; a massive 515-yard Par 5 12th; and a strategic pond between the 10th and 11th holes. The changes made Taylor Meadows a Par 72 course for the first time.

Meanwhile, the Lakes of Taylor was named to the Detroit Free Press’s Metro Detroit Top 10 Public Golf Course list. The Lakes of Taylor, located on Northline Road between Telegraph and Beech Daly, is one of the most challenging championship courses in the entire region, with its sprawling 7,028-yard footprint that combines stadium holes, picturesque turns, water features and woodlands. It is challenging to any golfer. Golfers from across the region have always considered Taylor an ideal stop when it comes to public golf courses.
