The Taylor Winterfest – featuring a 5K run, parade, tree-lighting and fireworks, among other activities – is changing dates this year. Usually held on the Saturday during Thanksgiving Weekend, it is being moved back to December 3. Recreation and Events Manager Chelsea Nunnally stated that the staff had been discussing a change in the date for some time, and that moving it back a week on the schedule will prevent conflicts with the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend as well as other events in the Detroit area. “Between the holiday weekend, Black Friday and all of the season-ending college football games, we feel this is the right move to make,” Nunnally said. “Having it on the Saturday of Thanksgiving made it difficult at times for some of our participants. This gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving Weekend and then bring in the Christmas holiday season the following weekend.”
